Lavish design in lean times
This period begins during the Second World War and the shortage of materials at that time is reflected not only in the way the jewellery is made, but also in the fact that there is very little jewellery from this era. Expressive geometric, asymmetric and daring designs characterize the retro pieces. Here one will find, for instance, eccentric bracelets and impressive cocktail rings in gold. Diamonds and other small, rare gemstones are rarely found due to their scarcity. Instead, larger semi-precious coloured stones such as citrines are used, in line with the motto that best describes the jewellery from this era: “the bigger the better”.
